I decided a couple of months ago to try to run the Twin Cities Marathon during the first week of October 2010. I'm going to try to use the Galloway training program. This is a 29 week program and I'm currently in week 6 I think. I'm not sure what the time target is but I'd be happy with under 4 hours. How much under is something we'll have to see I guess. My current 5km time is about 21:52 and thats improved from 23:12 about 4 weeks ago. I lost about 25lbs over the winter preparing for this so it'll be interesting.
I'm using a Garmin 305 GPS watch with their foot pod (attaches to the laces on my shoes) to log all my runs, the geek in me isn't dead yet. This records distance, heart rate, cadence, pace, elevation and so on. I'm using this for analysis, tracking progress and it's really handy to run simulating 5kms and so on.
My first proper race is on May 30th. Thats a half marathon from Byron to Rochester, the med city half. This will be interesting as besides the 5k attempts, it'll be good to gauge what to expect time wise in October.
I'm blogging about the training on a separate blog to keep this blog technical. I've been neglecting this lately but I'm planning on keeping it more up to date moving forward. Watch this space.
