I have a 1987 Porsche 944S with 52,000 original miles. When I first let out the clutch to pull forward and take off after backing out of my driveway and turning, I get a rumbling noise/vibration that turns into a thumping that seems to come from the rear. This also happens when I am turning left or right when slowing down to take a corner at a street intersection. This does not happen during normal driving and shifting on the open road. What do you think could be the problem?

I just watched last week an episode of Discovery's "Wheeler Dealers" and I was amazed to see that they bought and restored a 944 for just a little over GBP1000. It's a fantastic car for the money paid.
